As a member of SAEA, your rights are protected by the collective bargaining agreement between SAEA and the Santa Ana Unified School District. You'll find Grievance procedures are set out in Article VI. Areas of frequent concern to teachers include:
When you feel your rights under the Contract have been violated, you
should contact an SAEA Rep to accompany you to a meeting with the principal.
If you do not have a satisfactory resolution to your concern, you should
inform the principal that the meeting is an oral grievance and contact
SAEA as soon as possible. On the other hand, if your administrator asks
for a meeting, you have the right to a reasonable amount of time to
get a rep to accompany you. Do not be insubordinate by refusing to meet.
Listen and take notes. If pressed on an issue regarding potential legal
problems, say "I will be happy to respond after talking to SAEA."
Only the CTA Staff are authorized to get you a CTA attorney,
and ordinarily this is reserved for specific issues regarding serious
charges.
