What is H.E.L.P.?
H.E.L.P. was established to aid members in the unfortunate situation of a life-threatening illness.
Who should join H.E.L.P.?
Every SAEA member is encouraged to join H.E.L.P.
Why should I join H.E.L.P.?
- Joining H.E.L.P. strengthens H.E.L.P. and strengthens SAEA.
- Remember the motto for organized Labor is 'An injury to one is an injury to all'.
- Joining H.E.L.P. shows your concern and support for your co-workers. By HELPing them, you HELP yourself.
- Peace of mind in the unfortunate event of a catastrophic illness.
- Satisfaction that your contribution will generously aid a fellow unit member.
- While on leave, your District status and salary remain the same as if you were on personal sick leave.
What is a 'life-threatening' illness?
A life-threatening situation would be one that, unless treated, would result in imminent death. Some examples of “life-threatening” would be Stage 4 cancer or the side effects from an event such as a stroke, coma etc.
What happens when I enroll in H.E.L.P.?
Currently, unit-members can enroll by contributing 3 sick days, 1 per year over the course of 3 years. Each year 1 sick day will be deducted from your total.
How do I enroll in H.E.L.P.?
Download, complete and return the H.E.L.P. Enrollment Form to SAEA BEFORE January 30, 2010. You will receive confirmation of enrollment after February 10, 2010. If you don't receive confirmation before February 18, please contact SAEA.
How long is my enrollment in HELP good for?
Upon enrollment, and with proper documentation, you’re able to request days as long as you are an active, non-retired employee of SAUSD.
