State Council is CTA's ultimate governing body, providing direction to the Executive Board and the Board of Director's.

792 representatives are elected from locals around the State to serve a 3 year term on State Council. In addition, each representative is appointed by their CTA Regional District Director to sit on various State Council committees.

Representation is based on local membership and SAEA is currently allowed 6 representatives, 3 of which are vacant and will be elected before the October State Council Meeting.

• Scott Miller - Civil Rights in Education
• Peter Boyd - Communications
• Barbara Pearson - Early Childhood Education
• Donna Meade - Language and Acquisition

State Council meets four times a year at the Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles to discuss and create policy, set priorities and direction, and monitor State and Federal legislation affecting public education.

Meeting dates for the 2010-2011 school year are:

• October 22-24
• February 4-6
• April 1-3
• June 13-5

While voting rights, speaking privileges, and committee appointments are reserved only for elected State Council Representatives, all CTA members are welcome to attend as visitors and witness democracy in action.
